A comparison of water quality sensor deployment designs in wadeable streams

چکیده
The design of infrastructure used for deploying water quality sensors can potentially impact data quality. Despite this, sensor has not been well discussed in the peer-reviewed literature. Here, we present side-by-side measurements from two contrasting designs; a “monopod” consisting strut driven into streambed and downrigger suspended an “overhead cable.” We collected over approximately 6-month period wadeable stream monitoring sites within National Ecological Observatory Network. In general, observed minimal differences between measurements, suggesting both designs to be viable options perspective under normal operating conditions. However, monopod was more susceptible coming out during low stage burial by sedimentation. While expensive logistically complex install, overhead cable exhibited greater survivability, adjustability, serviceability. discuss additional considerations potential modifications that hope will prove useful other researchers instrumenting their own sites.

Chapter 8: Coldwater Fish in Wadeable Streams
Fish fauna of small coldwater streams of North America typically include trout and salmon, sculpins, minnow, sticklebacks, suckers, or lampreys (Hocutt and Wiley 1986). Standard sampling protocols provided herein apply primarily for trout and salmon because of their sport and commercial values (Johnson et al. 2007). As interest in nonsalmonid species grows, further development of sampling metho...
متن کاملUnderwater Sensor Network Deployment for Water Quality Monitoring
A sensor network is composed of a given number of communicating sensors, which aims to collect data from their envirenement. When interesting events are detected, information is routed from one node to another and eventually gathered in gateway nodes or base stations. Recently, sensors have become a promising operational technology for underwater environment. For example, they are now able to c...

15 صفحه اولWater Quality Comparison of Minnesota Streams: A Need for Buffer Maintenance
A study was conducted to determine the affect riparian buffers have on water quality in perennial streams in southern Minnesota. A report from the Environmental Working Group was used to determine how well each county maintained a 50 ft. buffer on perennial streams. Six counties were chosen from across the southern half of Minnesota, three counties receiving a passing grade from EWG and three r...
